Urban Zen

Urban Zen Integrative Therapy (UZIT) is a comprehensive and integrative program that utilizes both Western and Eastern philosophies of healing. This groundbreaking method leaves no aspect of wellbeing, be it physical, mental, or spiritual, unaffected. It is about caring - caring for yourself and caring for others - in a healthy holistic way, not only when you and your loved ones are ill, but every day. During a class or a session, we integrate complimentary healing modalities such as Yoga Therapy (in bed or on the floor movements and restorative poses), Reiki, Essential Oil Therapy, Breath Awareness, and Guided Body Scan Meditation. Each of these are uniquely designed to address the primary symptoms of stress or illness (pain, anxiety, nausea, insomnia, constipation, exhaustion, and sadness).

The goal of UZIT is to treat the person/patient not just the disease/condition.

You do not have to be experienced in yoga to join one of these classes. Urban Zen is for anyone who wants to relax, restore, expand in their meditation practice, and/or heal from any mental or physical stress. We do not do any advanced Yoga poses during an UZIT class, only relaxing and restorative poses and stretches. We love having new students and beginners in this class!

If you do not own yoga props, it isn’t a problem at all! Just make sure you dress comfortably and have several pillows and a cozy blanket or 2 nearby. You can stack some sturdy books to create a yoga block and you can use the belt off a bathrobe or a scarf instead on a yoga strap. Some folded bath sized towels make the perfect yoga blanket substitutes for my class and finally, if you don’t own a yoga bolster, you can use the seat cushion or the back cushion off a couch or firm chair…they make wonderful, supportive bolsters.

Finally, since we do use essential oils in my classes, if you don’t have any or are sensitive to the smells, perhaps you can light a favorite candle before class, or smell some fresh cut flowers that you enjoy. There is always a substitute!

Think about dedicating 1 hour a week, every Tuesday at 5pm as a gift to yourself, so your body can relax, rest, restore and heal. See you soon!
